If you think your run-of-the mill hummus is looking and tasting a little ordinary, try this fashionable update - orange is the new black.
This recipe from Whole Living and the new book "Power Foods" adds two pureed cooked sweet potatoes to hummus. The result is a dip with a fetching bright orange palette that jump-starts the attitude and fuels you with healthy fiber and beta carotene.

I was somewhat amazed at how one simple addition can revitalize an old standard. I served this sweet potato hummus sprinkled with smoked paprika and with pita chips on the side. The dip was thick, creamy and addictive. And I nearly finished the leftovers for breakfast the next morning.
I'm sure you won't be disappointed if you try it. What simple additions do you make to update old standards?
