Clinging to Summer? Try A Long Island Vodka Lime Cocktail!

I must admit, I’m really ready for crisp autumn weather. The steamy temperatures and tropical showers that have plagued the east coast for the last week … well, I’m so over it all. Would you believe a second summer-like storm paralyzed the Long Island Railroad with a lightning strike the other day? (As if riding the LIRR wasn’t already a “Groundhog Day” experience.) Yes indeed, summer is clinging to the calendar in a particularly mean-spirited way.

I refuse to let the last of summer’s nasty tantrums get me down but prefer to recollect the warmth and balmy breezes of past weeks. This Long Island Vodka Lime Cocktail is a tart, fresh summer memory in a martini glass. The recipe uses Long Island’s own LiV Vodka, made on the North Fork and LiV’s Sorbetta Lime Liqueur, a small batch liqueur crafted from LiV Vodka. One sip is like a bright, morning walk on the beach.

Long Island Vodka Lime Cocktail

2 ounces LiV Vodka

1 ounce Sorbetta Lime

1 ounce Simple Sugar

Juice of one lime

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled martini glass.

Salute!

Happy Sunday, TW!

Oh how I wish I were there to relish Long Island's very own Vodka. Who would have thought our fields of potatoes would capture such goodness. Of course the wine is memorable too:)

We're having much the same weather as you here in PA but there is a promise of 4 days of sunshine and autumn breezes in the forecast. We'll see...

I can't say I miss those "Ground Hog Day" experiences on LIRR but I sure do miss my fresh seafood! And would you believe, Newsday:) I was getting The Times delivered here on Sundays but it seems I'm just too busy to ever get to it.

Thank you so much for sharing, T.W. Wishing you a brisk rainbow sort of day:) Louise

I'll take several "bright morning walks on the beach." Sounds enchanting and it looks so inviting in the pretty martini glass.

I love the description of commuting as a Groundhog Day experience. What a wonderful image. And I agree -- enough of the humid weather. Let's just get to Fall.

Let me just say, Petunia (the St Bernard) is feeling herself again. There's a spring in her step and she no longer has that Bhutan death march look in the middle of our jog. Now she is outrunning me!

Nummy drink. It must have been hell on the LIR... nothing so much fun on a Friday night as a stuck train!
Your drink must have revived your spirits utterly!

This sounds lovely! I love a nice, summer cocktail. Unfortunately, it's already a bit too chilly here in the Windy City to think about this! Perhaps a hot toddy recipe next? And an explanation of what a hot toddy actually is?! :)

Did Rosemary have anything to do with this drink? :)

National vodka day? Louise is a font of information, isn't she? I love her blog.

After reading about your lime cocktail invention, I have no doubts we would be good friends. Excellent friends, in fact. I don't care what the weather is, I'll have one. (Maybe two.)

Barbara - sounds like a plan. Let's do it! They say it's always 5 o'clock somewhere ...

Even though I adore the heat (swimming galore in the pool: heaven), I am ready for a little cooling down; after all we are in ?October/ Great drink, love all things tangy, especially with a little Vodka tucked in.
